Scrapbookers

Summer adventures, family vacations, reunions, graduations, weddings, heirloom photos - time to preserve those memories in fun books that are easy to flip through over and over again.

If you like scrapbooking, new art projects or just wanting to socialize with some friendly creative types! Look no further. Scraps Galore has it all and so much more.

The store has been at the same location since 1997, but in 2005, owner Elizabeth, her daughter and daughter-in-law -- “avid scrappers” -- took a class together just for the fun of it. During the class they learned the original owner wanted to retire and sell the business. Elizabeth is not totally sure what happened, but knew she also wanted to retire from her 41 year career as a nurse at Presbyterian and UNMH. Bam, Boom Elizabeth made the decision to buy the business and start her second career. She has been thrilled ever since.

It’s truly a “family” enterprise. The whole family chips in. Her husband Ken, daughter Stefani, son-in-law Mike, Son Steve, daughter-in-law Erin and the grand kids Christopher, Megan, Kiley, Natalie and Brendon do their part. They love the time they all spend together -- It is not like work at all!

Scraps Galore, located at 7600 Jefferson NE #8, in the Journal Center, is the place to go for all your scrapbook needs and supplies for paper art projects and so much more. The front of the store is misleading. The place is Yuuuuge! You’re immediately greeted by happy people. They carry all the supplies you need to preserve your memories. If by chance they don’t have in stock what you need, they can special order most things. They have classes, workshops and guest teachers. The workshop fee comes with use of equipment/tools including many die cuts on site. They can accommodate all ages, millennials and their traveling books, the mom and her two daughters who attend the popular annual National "Scrapbook Day" event (Saturdays in May, limited to 24 people for$40 including lunch. This Fills up fast. Registration for 2019 will be in March), the regulars who meet to chat while working on their greeting cards, the crafters with mass quantities of supplies who need a little more room to work. And then there is the occasional customer who stops by to relax in the comfortable meeting room, to eat a sack lunch and mingle with friends for a bit.

They offer layout, mixed media, greeting card design workshops and in June they will be offering an exciting flow art class (where you pour the paint). They have all day workshop access for only 5 dollars plus tax. Check website for all the dates and costs of classes/workshops.

Supply options are many, including: paper, stickers, paints, inks, stencils, pens, markers, stamps, embellishments, die cuts, cards and much more.

The store is so good, it has been named “Best of” many times over the years and "The Best" the last two years in a row. That should sum it all up. Can't get better than that!

Store hours are: Monday - Saturday 10am-6pm. Closed Sundays.

Scrapbooking is not like it used to be! Make yours simple or make it elaborate, but at least go by and get started. Keep those memories organized and easy to flip through for many generations. Work on a card project! Enjoy a fun crowd! You’ll be happy you did!
